A mnemonic device is a phrase that is made to help a person remember a list of words, such as the elements of art. In art class we learned how to make mnemonic devices for the elements and principals of art to help us remember them.
A mnemonic that can be used to remember the elements of art, which are shape, value, texture, space, line, colour, is SASSY SHARKS CAN TALK VERY LOUD. A mnemonic that can be used to remember the principals, which are proportion, balance, variety, contrast, rhythm, unity, harmony, is PLENTY BEE'S RUSH VERY CAUTIOSLY UP HALLS.

Lines
Implied and Real Lines
One of the most important element in art is LINE. A line is the distance between two different points and can go on forever. A line can be used to lead the viewers through a work of art. A line is what creates shape, texture and variety in art depending on how it is used. A line can either be implied or real. A real line is the line that we draw and there is no space in-between, but an implied line is created by the sense of a line being there.
Organic VS Geometric Lines
An organic line is a line that is found in nature, such as the lines in a leaf. A geometric line has a perfect, uniformed measurement, these lines are not found in nature often.
Kinds of Lines
There are five different types of lines. One type of line is a vertical line, it moves straight up and down. In some cases a vertical lines show growth or height. Another type of line is horizontal line, which are parallel to the bottom of the page. This line can create relaxation. There are diagonal lines. These lines are in the middle of a horizontal and vertical line. Diagonal lines can create excitement to the work of art. A curved line is a line that changes direction a lot. A curved line can create a never ending feeling. Lastly, a zigzag line which is a combination of diagonal lines can give a confusing feeling. As you can tell different lines can mean different emotions. Lines are an excellent way to express how you are feeling.
Art as a Language
Something that I learned from ArtTalk is that you can express how you feel through art, art is known as a language to many, so it is like talking about your feelings using the elements of art, which are line, shape and form, space, colour, and texture. Elements of art are also known as basic visual symbols in the language of art. Art work should include at least one or more of these element, all art will have one element no matter what. Sometimes an artist will plan on only using a few elements but will most likely having all or most of the elements being used. The way the elements of art are organized is by the principals of art. The principals of art help create special effects in a work of art. The principals include rhythm, movement, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, harmony, and unity. In a work of art there are three basic features, which include subject, composition, and content. The subject is known as what the viewer can easily see in the work of art. The composition is the way the principals of art are organized. The content is the message that the work communicates.
The credit line is a list of important facts about the art. Most or all credit lines should have six facts which include: name, title, year, medium, size, location. These are just somethings that all works of art should include.
